Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Story…
In early 2021, our mother suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from a fall. The initial CT Scans of her brain and skull did not reveal any damage so medical treatment focused on her cuts and bruises. Weeks later, she developed a brain bleed resulting in neurological symptoms such as headache, loss of strength, balance and peripheral vision.
To see our active mother resigning to the couch because she could barely walk a few steps with a walker was heartbreaking. As the primary caretaker for our two young children, she was always a burst of energy with the smile to match. It was our mission to help her get better.
Traditional western medicine focused on decreasing the inflammation with strong steroids and pain management with opioids. We understand that there is a time and place for this type of intervention, but our mother had showed very little improvement after weeks of this regimen. She was making small gains with physical therapy and chiropractic care, but we just felt stuck.
Thankfully, with the guidance of Dr. Giancarlo Licata from Vital Head & Spine and Dr. Mark Cheng, a world renown Acupuncturist and Strength Coach… we explored the world of Hyperbaric Medicine and NATURAL HEALING WITH OXYGEN!
After one week of treatments, our mother’s constant 7/10 headache pain had decreased to a 3/10. After 4 weeks, her headache was completely gone and found a new sense of energy, strength, mental clarity and CONFIDENCE! We finally found a natural solution that could JUMPSTART her body into healing itself from the inside out.
When she was showing very little progress, we felt hopeless. Now, we are excited see to her up and about as she plays with our kids again.
Needless to say, we were impressed with her results and started to research all of the benefits of simply increasing oxygen in your body. Yes, we knew there were some big time athletes using it for recovery, but had never explored the physiological processes behind it.
Since we need oxygen to live, it only makes sense that things heal much better when you have more of it!
This is why we ultimately felt that this would be an AMAZING THERAPY to share with our clients.

From One Chamber to a Full HBOT Suite
When we brought our first hyperbaric chamber into HealthFit, it was personal.
My mom had suffered a traumatic brain injury, and I watched hyperbaric oxygen therapy give her something that nothing else could — clarity, energy, and hope. That experience changed everything for me. It changed how I practiced. It changed what I believed was possible for our patients.
We started with a soft chamber operating at 1.3 to 1.5 ATA — a mild, comfortable pressure that’s perfect for general wellness, brain fog, sleep improvement, and everyday recovery. And for many of our clients, that’s still the ideal fit.
But as we treated more complex cases — post-surgical recovery, stubborn injuries, neurological conditions, and clients who wanted the same protocols used in clinical research — we knew we needed to offer more.
That’s why we invested in a 2.0 ATA hard chamber.
This is the same class of chamber used in hospitals and research institutions around the world. It reaches pressures that soft chambers simply can’t — unlocking deeper oxygen saturation, more significant stem cell mobilization, and the kind of results that the published science is actually based on.
Now, HealthFit is one of the only clinics in the Pasadena area offering both options under one roof.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. We believe in matching the right tool to the right person. Whether you’re looking for gentle wellness support or clinical-grade healing power, we’ll help you choose the chamber that fits your goals, your body, and your comfort level.
Our Two Chamber Options at a Glance:
• Soft Chamber (1.3–1.5 ATA): Gentle pressure. Ideal for wellness, brain health, energy, sleep, mild recovery. Comfortable sit-up or recline position. Great starting point for anyone new to HBOT.
• Hard Chamber (2.0 ATA): Clinical-grade pressure. Ideal for post-surgical healing, complex injuries, neurological conditions, and accelerated recovery. The same pressure range used in hospital and research settings.
Not sure which one is right for you? That’s exactly what we’re here for. Inquire below and we’ll personally help you figure out the best path.
Prior to HBOT, I haven’t been training my Jiu Jitsu which I really love. I was having issues with low energy and poor sleep, and I was skipping a lot of my classes. Now with the increased energy I’ve been back and training regularly which I’m happy about.

It’s a lot of fun for me because I basically fall asleep within 5 minutes, and it’s been a very comforting visit. It takes away a lot of the stress that I have from other places that I’ve been at. The HBOT is good for me because it really helps me relax.
Ed K.
I noticed after several sessions with HBOT, after that initial relaxed feeling, my brain felt like it was functioning better. I was sleeping better, I had lower anxiety so that helped not only my migraines, but my body kind of heal and feel better.

How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an all-natural, non-invasive treatment where our clients simply breathe pure oxygen in a greater than normal pressure environment.
The normal air that we breathe consists of 21% oxygen. By breathing in enhanced levels of oxygen in a pressurized environment similar to several feet undersea, the effects are tremendous. This combination can increase your body’s oxygen concentration up to 600% - giving the potential to lead to extraordinary health benefits.
In a 60 to 90 minute hyperbaric oxygen session, you are breathing concentrated oxygen while laying down or sitting up in a comfortable reclined position. This relaxing session gives you time to breath and rest. Many clients sleep, but you are also able to read, listen to music or even just browse on your phone.

What Is A Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Session Like?
Picture yourself relaxing in an air filled tent while on an airplane. Strange right?!
In a 60 to 90 minute hyperbaric oxygen session, you are breathing concentrated oxygen while sitting up or laying in a comfortable reclined position.
With most HBOT Chambers in the industry shaped like a cylinder, people at times can feel a bit claustrophobic. With our triangle shaped Hyperbaric Unit, this allows our clients a lot more room and space within the chamber putting them at ease during their sessions.
Because of the increase in atmospheric pressure, you will feel like your ears are “plugged up” like while you change altitude on an airline flight.
Sessions are typically very relaxing where you can sleep, read, listen to music, meditate, or just hang out with your favorite electronics.
Our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber also has an integrated air conditioning system that keeps the temperature cool and pleasant.
Within the chamber, there is a reading light and a walkie talkie to easily contact one of our team members at anytime should you need assistance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy at HealthFit, Pasadena, CA
What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT, means breathing oxygen inside a chamber where the air pressure is higher than normal. Under pressure, your blood plasma carries far more oxygen than it can at sea level, and that extra oxygen reaches tissue that normally gets very little: injured tendons, swollen joints, bruised bone, and the brain. More oxygen means the cells that do repair work have more fuel.
What's the difference between a soft chamber and a hard chamber?
A soft chamber is inflatable and runs at lower pressure, about 1.3 to 1.5 times normal air pressure (written as 1.3 to 1.5 ATA). A hard chamber is a rigid, clinical-grade chamber that runs at 2.0 ATA, which is the pressure used in most published medical research. HealthFit is the only clinic in Pasadena with both. We use the soft chamber for recovery and wellness, and the hard chamber when the goal is healing after surgery, injury or concussion.
How long is a session, and how many do I need?
A session is 60 to 90 minutes. For an acute injury or for the weeks before and after surgery, a series of 5 to 10 sessions is typical. For other conditions like concussion, chronic inflammation or brain fog, plans run 10 to 40 sessions over several weeks. Your plan depends on what you're treating and how you respond, and we'll lay it out clearly at your consultation.
What does a session feel like?
You sit or recline, fully clothed, and breathe normally. As the pressure rises you'll feel your ears fill, like on an airplane, and you clear them by swallowing or yawning. After that it's quiet. Most people read, nap, or watch something. Our hard chamber lets you sit up, which many people find more comfortable than lying flat.
What conditions can HBOT help?
Recovery after plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery, concussion and post-concussion symptoms, brain fog and mental fatigue, chronic inflammation, slow-healing injuries, athletic recovery, and general energy and sleep. Some of this is backed by strong research, some is still emerging, and we'll tell you which is which for your situation.
Is HBOT safe? Who shouldn't do it?
For most people it's very safe. The most common issue is ear discomfort from pressure changes, and we teach you how to clear your ears. HBOT is not appropriate for people with an untreated collapsed lung, certain lung diseases, an active ear infection or sinus infection, a recent ear surgery, or some chemotherapy drugs. If you're pregnant, we'll ask you to check with your OB first. Every new patient is screened before their first session.
Can I do HBOT before surgery, or only after?
Both. A short series in the weeks before surgery can prepare tissue, and sessions afterward support healing and can reduce swelling and bruising time. Many plastic surgeons now ask their patients to find a 2.0 ATA chamber specifically. If your surgeon gave you a recommendation, bring it and we'll build the plan around it.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable clothing. Leave lighters, e-cigarettes and anything with a battery outside the chamber. We'll go over the full list before your first visit.
