What Is A Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Session Like?

Three Chamber Options. Two Pressure Levels. The Right Fit For You.

Soft Chamber Lie Down or Recline

(For those comfortable getting down to the ground)

Soft Chamber Sit Up or Recline

(Great for those with mobility concerns or who prefer sitting upright)

Hard Chamber 2.0 ATA

(Clinical-grade pressure for deeper therapeutic support)

At HealthFit, we offer two types of hyperbaric chambers — so your experience will depend on which one is right for your treatment plan. Here’s what to expect with each:

Option 1: Soft Chamber Session (1.3–1.5 ATA)

EDITOR NOTE: This is largely the existing copy, refined and clearly labeled as the soft chamber.

Our soft chamber is the same triangle-shaped unit you may have seen on our videos — spacious, comfortable, and designed to put even first-timers at ease.

What to Expect:

  • Sessions are 60 to 90 minutes.

  • You can lie down or sit up in a comfortable reclined position.

  • he triangle shape gives you noticeably more room than the cylinder-shaped chambers most clinics use — reducing any claustrophobic feeling.

  • A team member will help you get settled, apply your oxygen mask, and close the chamber while staying in communication the whole time.

  • As the pressure gently increases, your ears may feel “plugged up” — similar to altitude changes on an airplane. This usually resolves within minutes by swallowing, yawning, or gently blowing through your nose.

  • Once pressurized, most clients sleep, read, listen to music, or browse their phone. The chamber includes AC, a reading light, and a walkie-talkie for easy communication.

Best for: General wellness, brain health, sleep, energy, mild recovery, and anyone new to HBOT who wants a gentle introduction.

Option 2: Hard Chamber Session (2.0 ATA)

Our new clinical-grade hard chamber is built to deliver higher pressures than a soft chamber can reach — the same range used in hospitals and research institutions worldwide.

What to Expect:

  • Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes at pressure, with a gradual pressurization and depressurization period on each end.

  • The hard chamber is a rigid, steel or acrylic-walled unit — think of it as the difference between an inflatable pool and a built-in one. It’s engineered for higher pressures and deeper therapeutic benefit.

  • You’ll be comfortably positioned inside the chamber, and a team member will walk you through every step of the process.

  • As pressure increases to 2.0 ATA, the ear sensation will be slightly more pronounced than in the soft chamber. Our team will coach you through equalization techniques — the same methods scuba divers use — and we go at your pace.

  • Once at depth, the session is just as relaxing as the soft chamber. You can rest, sleep, listen to music, or simply breathe.

  • The environment inside is climate-controlled and comfortable.

Best for: Post-surgical recovery, complex injuries, neurological conditions (TBI, concussion, PTSD), and anyone whose treatment plan calls for clinical-grade pressure.

No matter which chamber you start with, your first visit includes a personal consultation where we review your health history, discuss your goals, and recommend the best chamber and protocol for you. You’ll never be guessing. We make sure you feel informed, comfortable, and confident before your first session begins.
